LMC Buying Group

The LMC Buying Groups Federation was established in 2009 and comprises LMC Buying Groups throughout the country that have been established with the help of Practice Support Services (Notts) Ltd, a subsidiary of Nottinghamshire LMC Ltd. Each of the groups has been based on the model of the Trent LMCs Buying Group which has been operating successfully in the East Midlands for over a decade.

Lancashire and Cumbria LMCs has been a member of the LMC Buying Groups Federation since 2012. This means that all practices can access the discounts the Buying Group has negotiated on a wide range of products and services.

By registering with the Buying Group’s website: you can view all the suppliers’ pricing, contact details and request quotes. The Buying Group also offers any member practice a free cost analysis which demonstrates how much money your practice could save just by swapping to buying group suppliers.

What is the Purpose of LMC Buying Groups?

The objective of the LMC Buying Group is to obtain, through negotiation with suppliers, the best possible discounts on a range of goods and services, which practices regularly buy, minimising practice expense and maximising income, and saving GPs and Practice Managers the trouble of ‘shopping around’ to obtain value for money. There is no compulsion for practices to use the recommended suppliers and it doesn’t cost them a penny. This is seen as an added value service, which the LMC can extend to its constituent practices free of charge.

There are currently 41 LMC Buying Groups covering 79 LMC areas in England and Wales with 5300 practice members.

‘Challenge Gary’

We’re so confident we can save practices money that the Federation’s procurement consultant, Gary Burns, offers practices a free cost analysis to demonstrate the huge savings they could be making. All people have to do is send him an email detailing which areas they want him to analyse (e.g. office supplies, medical consumables, utilities etc.) and he will do the analysis and demonstrate how much they could save by switching to our suppliers.

Example: This mid-sized practice asked Gary Burns to analyse their spend in just four areas:

Registration

The first time a practice uses the LMC Buying Group website site they have to register, this will enable the use of individual email addresses and passwords. This will make subsequent visits to the site easier as users will be able to reset their own passwords if needed.

The site has a new design and layout and the log-in process has also been streamlined.

Any visitor to the website can still view basic information about the Buying Group and its suppliers without having to log-in to the Members section.

However since the special prices on offer through the Buying Group are only available to members, we keep the details of our deals within the password protected part of our website.

So the first time you visit the new website you’ll need to fill in the registration form to get your log-in details.

After you’ve received a confirmation email you can simply log-in as follows:

  • Go to the LMC Buying Groups Members Login.
  • Enter the email address and password you’ve just registered with then click Go.
  • Go to the Suppliers page to see a list of the commodity areas. Click on whichever one is of interest to you e.g. staff uniforms to view that page.
  • To order you need to contact the suppliers directly. All their contact details can be found on their individual pages.

If you ever forget your password you can reset it yourself by visiting the Reset page. This will only work if you’ve previously registered with the site.
